Provincial Curia

The Provincial Curia assists the Provincial in the governance of the Province, coordinating ministries, administration, and pastoral initiatives in fidelity to the Jesuit mission.

Rev Fr Arturo Sosa Abascal, SJ (Superior General)

Father Arturo Sosa Abascal, SJ, of Venezuela, was elected the 31st Superior General of the Society of Jesus at the Jesuits’ General Congregation 36 (GC 36) on October 14, 2016, in Rome. Fr. Sosa leads the Society of Jesus, the largest religious order of priests and brothers in the Catholic Church. Since Saint Ignatius was elected as Superior General of the Society of Jesus in 1540 the Superior General has always been elected for life by a “General Congregation” of Jesuits, representatives of their provinces around the world. The mission of the Superior General consists in guiding the Order, according to the Constitutions and Norms and the Guidelines of the General Congregations.

Rev. Fr. James Arjen Tete SJ (Provincial)

On the evening of 14th September 2023, the Feast of the Triumph of the Cross, a large gathering of Jesuits of the Province assembled at St. Xavier’s College Chapel for the installation of the new Provincial, Fr. James Arjen Tete. Fr. Jerome Francis, the then Socius, read out the Decree of Appointment of Fr. James Arjen Tete issued by our Superior General, Fr. Arturo Sosa. With this solemn act, Fr. Arjen formally assumed the responsibility of leading the Province. Born in 1967, Fr. James Arjen Tete entered the Society of Jesus in 1987, was ordained a priest in 2003. He holds Degrees in Sanskrit (Sanskrit College, Calcutta University), in Anthropology (M.A. from the University of Pune), and in Theology (M. Th. and Doctorate, Jesuit School of Theology, Berkeley, USA).
